Hiking with Your Dog

Exercise is a very important part of our health for us, and our dog’s, hiking with your adventure partner makes getting outside much more fun too! They encourage us to try new things, go to new places that we wouldn’t do alone and to meet new friends along the way! It is important when going on hiking adventures to be mindful of precautions to take to ensure you and your dog have a safe, but wonderful time!

This time of year, there are a lot of bugs such as ticks, fleas, mosquitoes and blackflies in the area that love to bite our furry friends and us. Make sure that your dog has been well protected with tick/flea prevention such as Advantix. (It is a once a month application that protects from tick/fleas/mosquitoes and blackflies). Wearing long sleeves and good hiking shoes for us is important also.

Ensure that you bring a first aid kit with you and water and treats for your dog. A collapsible water dish works well for when you need to take a break, sit and look at nature’s beauty along the way.

Know where you are going on your adventure ( and make sure you tell someone and when you expect to be home).

Remember to keep your cell phone charged and bring snacks in your backpack along with your first aid kit, blanket and water.
